Whether current linemen will be along for that journey remains to be seen.
Palcic, the Bruins' fourth line coach in as many years, is adamant that he will "not stand for mediocrity," putting players on notice that "we will right this ship through recruiting."
Meanwhile, offensive coordinator Norm Chow is accepting a share of the blame. The Bruins trailed Brigham Young, 42-0, at halftime and thereafter abandoned the ground game, with three runs in the second half.
Still, Chow said, "Thirty-eight yards rushing is ridiculous. But we're young. We still have work to do."
Against BYU, the Bruins ran 55 plays, the Cougars 85. Long stretches on the field contributed to a UCLA defensive meltdown.
"I'm a firm believer in balance," Chow said. "You can't go out there and just throw the ball. That's too easy to defend.
"If you have 75 plays, 35 to 40 have to be runs."
A few yards on those runs would be nice too.
