Armed man breaks into Beverly Hills home

The intruder takes cash from a safe and flees in the owners' Mercedes. No arrests have been made.

An armed, masked man broke into an elderly couple's home in Beverly Hills while they were having a party, stealing cash from their safe before fleeing in their Mercedes, police say.

The break-in was reported at 10:34 p.m. Tuesday in the 9900 block of Sunset Boulevard near Copley Place, next to the Los Angeles Country Club and near the home of pop singer Lionel Richie, said Tony Lee, a spokesman for the Beverly Hills Police Department.

The intruder, who police believe was armed, broke into the house and the safe, then fled in the couple's four-door, silver 2001 Mercedes-Benz 430S, with a California license plate of 4PFK859, Lee said in a statement. He did not say how much cash was taken or what type of weapon the man was carrying.

The couple were treated for minor injuries. No one has been arrested and police have not released a description of the intruder. But he is considered armed and dangerous, police said.
