Reflections of racism

September 25, 2008

Re "Under America's rock, an old ugliness," Column,

Sept. 22

Al Martinez's column should be required reading. What has been happening is beyond comprehension in this age of supposed enlightenment.

I remember well the times Martinez speaks of -- Alabama Gov. George Wallace and his hate-mongering, and the terrible time from which the civil rights movement was born. We have to put an end to hatred because of race or religion.

Barack Obama should be at least 30 points ahead in any poll. That he isn't does not speak well for the future of this country.
