Gunman sought in Venice street festival shootings

A man is shot to death and a woman critically wounded in the attack Sunday at the Abbot Kinney Street Festival.

Police are continuing their search today for a gunman who killed a man and critically wounded a woman at a street fair in Venice.

Witnesses told police a gunman dressed in black "just walked up and started shooting" during the Abbot Kinney Street Festival on Sunday night, said Officer Karen Smith, a Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman.

The gunman is still at large, said Officer Sam Park, an LAPD spokesman.

The shooting occurred about 9:30 p.m. Sunday as the 31-year-old man and 25-year-old woman were standing near the intersection of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and San Juan Avenue.

The male victim, Adam Pacheco, was shot several times and died at a hospital, Park said. The woman was hospitalized in critical condition with a gunshot wound to her face, he said.

Police believe the two were shot after a dispute among attendees of the street fair, said Cecil Manresa, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Police are looking for a male Latino, about 17 to 18 years old, about 5 feet, 9 inches, of medium build, with shoulder-length dark hair and dark clothing, Smith said.
