Victor Martinez also homered in Cleveland's nine-run seventh inning. CC Sabathia threw 122 pitches in 5 2/3 innings for the Yankees. Cliff Lee (1-2) gave up one run and seven hits in six innings for the Indians. New York went 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position in the first five innings.
Chicago 3, at Tampa Bay 2: John Danks pitched six strong innings and Jermaine Dye hit a two-run home run for the White Sox. Danks (1-0) limited the Rays to two hits and had a shutout until Carlos Pena homered with one out in the sixth.
