Cliff Lee (1-2) gave up one run and seven hits in six innings for the Indians. New York went 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position in the first five innings.
Chicago 3, at Tampa Bay 2: John Danks pitched six strong innings and Jermaine Dye hit a two-run home run for the White Sox. Danks (1-0) limited the Rays to two hits and had a shutout until Carlos Pena homered with one out in the sixth.
Toronto 9, at Minnesota 2: Roy Halladay pitched seven dominant innings to improve to 8-0 with a 2.77 earned-run average in his career against the Twins. The Blue Jays scored seven runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by Kevin Millar's fourth career grand slam. Toronto has won 12 of the last 13 games against Minnesota.
