at St. Louis 5, New York 2: Joel Pineiro (3-0) carried a six-hitter into the ninth inning and Albert Pujols had two hits and drove in two runs for the Cardinals. Pineiro retired 13 consecutive batters in 35 pitches beginning with the final out of the fourth inning.

Atlanta 1, at Washington 0: Kelly Johnson drew a bases-loaded walk from Mike Hinckley in the ninth inning and the Braves won for the second time in seven games. The Nationals dropped to 3-11, the worst record in the majors.

at Arizona 2, Colorado 0: Dan Haren struck out nine in seven innings and Ryan Roberts' pinch-hit single in the seventh inning ended a scoreless tie.

at San Francisco 1, San Diego 0 (10 innings): Bengie Molina's pinch-hit double with two outs in the 10th inning drove in Andres Torres. The Giants had only four hits, two in the 10th inning.

Milwaukee 3, at Philadelphia 1: Braden Looper (2-0) pitched six scoreless innings, Mike Cameron hit a two-run double and the Brewers ended a six-game losing streak against the Phillies in the regular season.

Cincinnati 3, at Chicago 0: Johnny Cueto (1-1) pitched seven innings and Jay Bruce hit a home run in the ninth inning. Cueto also had two hits.

at Houston 6, Dodgers 5: Ivan Rodriguez drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning.
