Sol plays to scoreless tie against St. Louis

Both teams fail to convert late penalty kicks.

ST. LOUIS — The Sol and the St. Louis Athletica played to a scoreless tie Saturday in a Women's Professional Soccer game in which both teams failed to convert late penalty kicks.

In the 73rd minute, the Sol's Katie Larkin was fouled in the penalty area. Aly Wagner took the penalty kick, which was blocked by goalkeeper Hope Solo. The tables turned in the 83rd minute, when Allison Falk committed a hand-ball foul in the Sol's penalty area. Lori Chalupny took the penalty kick that was saved by Sol goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc.

"It was a very difficult game and we had very good chances," Sol Coach Abner Rogers said.

The Sol (3-0-1) was without Marta, who was playing for Brazil's national team.
