August 02, 2009|Grahame L. Jones

AT CHICAGO

When: 3 p.m. PDT.

Where: Toyota Park, Bridgeview, Ill.

On the air: FSC.

Records: Sol 11-2-5, Red Stars 4-9-5.

Record vs. Red Stars: 1-0-1.

Update: This is the next-to-last game of the first Women's Professional Soccer season for the Sol, which already has clinched first place in the league and a place in the Aug. 22 championship final at the Home Depot Center. With nothing at stake for Los Angeles and only a road game against Boston left on the team's schedule, the focus for Coach Abner Rogers is on keeping the team in peak shape and injury-free for the final in three weeks' time. Brazil's Marta (9 goals, 3 assists) and France's Camille Abily (8 goals, 1 assist) of the Sol are ranked 1-2 in the league scoring race and Sol goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc leads WPS with 12 shutouts and a 0.35 goals-against average. The Red Stars already have been eliminated from playoff contention. Abily will miss the final because she will be with France for the European Women's Championship.
