Few women are TV directors

Women held fewer than one in 10 directing jobs on prime-time entertainment programs on the five major broadcast television networks last season, according to a report being released today by the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film at San Diego State University.

Women represented 35% of all producers, 29% of writers, 23% of executive producers, 21% of series creators, 18% of editors, 9% of directors and 4% of directors of photography, the report found.

Overall, women made up 25% of the workforce in these seven job categories at ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and the CW, the study said, a decline from 26% for the 2007-08 TV season but an increase from 21% in 1997-98.
