So, under lobbyist pressure, state Sen. Roderick Wright (D-Inglewood) is deleting a clause in his bill that would have required insurance companies to verify that services billed were matched by services rendered, thereby saving possibly millions of dollars in insurance fraud. And insurers oppose this safeguard? Incredible!
But I guess it's no different than banks opposing credit card reform that would cut down on fraud, or that would favor the consumer in any way.
I ask our legislative body, why is it that so many of you people (of presumably high principles) who enter public service eventually lower your standards when dealing with industries that make large campaign contributions?
