Outdoor stoves pose fire hazard

February 15, 2009|Times Wire Reports

Several types of outdoor stoves are being recalled, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the stoves' manufacturers or importers.

About 15,000 Personal Cooking Systems and Group Cooking Systems, made in the U.S. by Jetboil Inc. of Manchester, N.H., are being recalled because a tight valve attached to the stove's fuel source can allow gas to leak, posing a fire hazard. The recalled models include Personal Cooking Systems in black (PBL075-BLK) and camo (PBL075-CAMO); Backcountry Gourmet Set (BDLFRY); Personal Cooking System with Companion Cup (BDL001); Personal Cooking System with Pot Support & Stabilizer (BDL002); Personal Cooking System with Coffee Press (BDL003); and Personal Cooking System Java Kit (BDLJAVA) and Group Cooking System (GCS150). They were sold at specialty outdoor and general sporting goods stores and on the Internet last year from July through November. Information: (888) 611-9905 or www.cpsc.gov.

About 6,700 Field & Stream Dual Burner Camp Stoves made in China and imported by Dick's Sporting Goods of Pittsburgh are being recalled because gas flow could produce higher flames than expected. Also, rainwater in the burners could allow gas to build up and ignite unexpectedly. The recalled dual-burner camp stove, style No. CEH00475, was sold by Dick's Sporting Goods last year from January to October. Information: (888) 837-1380 or www.cpsc.gov.

* About 20,000 Playhouse Disney "Handy Manny" toy tool sets, made in China and imported by Disney Store USA of Pasadena, are being recalled because the tools contain toy eyes that can separate, posing a choking hazard to young children. The recalled product is a plastic, eight-piece toy set that includes a tool box, hammer, saw, pliers, wrench, tape measure and two screwdrivers. They have the UPC numbers 405144100614 or 422147400633. The products were sold at Disney stores from October 2007 through last month. Information: (866) 902-2798 or www.cpsc.gov.
