Re "Laid-off lawyer in predicament she never imagined," Feb. 15

Steve Lopez writes that though Ellie Trope "knows she'll never be hungry, she wonders how she'll continue to pay for health insurance."

Trope still is not facing how ugly reality can get. Before this is over, she may very well be hungry. During the Depression, it was common for people to say, "I used to be ...." as they begged for food at backdoors. We don't think that can happen again, but the reality is that not one of us knows what lies ahead.
