Car race causes six-vehicle crash on 60 Freeway
Two cars were racing on the 60 near the 710 when the driver of one vehicle lost control, officials say. The resulting pileup closed westbound freeway lanes for more than an hour.
Two vehicles that may have been racing on the Pomona Freeway in East Los Angeles caused a fiery six-car pileup that shut down westbound lanes for more than an hour today, authorities said.
The crash occurred at 3:47 a.m. west of the Long Beach Freeway near Indiana Street when one of the drivers apparently lost control, causing several other cars to collide, said Los Angeles County Fire Supervising Dispatcher Bryan Webb.
At least one car caught fire, and bystanders reported pulling several people from the flames, Webb said.
One person was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center in critical condition and another was treated for minor injuries at the scene. Westbound freeway traffic was closed near the accident scene from about 4:30 to 6 a.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer David Porter.
