Reporting from Washington — Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Beverly Hills) was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday after feeling "unwell," a spokeswoman for the 69-year-old congressman said.

Karen Lightfoot said Waxman was feeling "much better now" after undergoing "routine testing" for symptoms she did not disclose. He had returned to Los Angeles for the weeklong congressional recess.

The 18-term House member has played a central role in global warming and healthcare legislation this summer.

Waxman became chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee in January and sponsored the Waxman-Markey Clean Energy Bill, which narrowly passed the House in a 219-212 vote Friday.

From 2007 to 2009, Waxman chaired the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the House of Representatives' principal investigative committee.

Waxman's district includes the cities of Santa Monica and Beverly Hills and areas of Los Angeles.
