Mumbai gunman seeks punishment

July 23, 2009|Times Wire Reports

The young Pakistani gunman who confessed to his role in last year's Mumbai attacks says he would rather be hanged in this world than face "God's punishment" in the next.

The Indian court trying Ajmal Amir Kasab has yet to accept his confession and guilty plea for his role in the siege that left 166 dead. The judge said he would decide today whether to accept the confession.

"Whatever I have done, I have done in this world. It would be better to be punished in this world. It would be better than God's punishment. That's why I have pleaded guilty," Kasab told the court.
