Financial review for Suleman kids

July 28, 2009|Shelby Grad and Kimi Yoshino

An Orange County judge has agreed to appoint a guardian to examine the finances of octuplets mother Nadya Suleman's 14 children.

A child-labor activist has filed suit against Suleman in Orange County Superior Court, alleging that video shot of her children violates a law aimed at protecting child entertainers from overwork. The suit seeks to create an independent trust for the children.

Suleman said there was no need for a guardian.

Suleman, who was already a mother of six, made headlines in January when she gave birth to eight more children. Radar Online and other media organizations have shot video of the children, and Suleman is going to be the focus of an upcoming reality TV show.

Another hearing will be held Aug. 20 to determine whether a more permanent guardian should be appointed over the estate.
