They will select fifth but have discussed moving up to fourth. John Tavares is pegged to go first, to the New York Islanders.

Victor Hedman, defense, Modo, Swedish Elite League

Scouts have drooled over this 6-6, 220-pounder and project him to be a franchise defenseman. He's not as physical as his size suggests, but he's still growing and gaining strength. Smart, especially in generating offense, and knows when to jump into the play. Mobile too.

Matt Duchene, center, Brampton, Ontario Hockey League

He's considered a Joe Sakic-type center, comparisons heightened by the fact Colorado -- which might lose Sakic to retirement -- has the third overall pick. Said to be very quick and very competitive, though only 5-11 and 200 pounds. Better defensively than most kids at the junior level.

Magnus Svensson-Paajarvi, left wing, Timra, Swedish Elite League

A two-way player with great skating ability and innate scoring skills, he's lacking only in physicality. Playing against far older players in the Swedish Elite League last season he had seven goals and 17 points in 50 games. Has played well in two world junior tournaments.

Evander Kane, center, Vancouver, Western Hockey League

He added tenacity to an already strong game this season and became a key player in Canada's world junior victory despite being a late addition to the team. Had 48 goals and 96 points in 61 games but probably needs to upgrade his physical game. That shouldn't be a problem.
