Tenet settles overtime lawsuit

March 13, 2009|Times Wire Reports

Tenet Healthcare Corp. has agreed to pay $85 million to settle claims that nurses and other staff members in California were denied extra overtime pay for working 12-hour shifts.

Dallas-based Tenet will pay about 23,000 current and former hospital employees under a settlement reported by the Orange County Register.

The lawsuit alleged that Tenet lowered the hourly pay rate for some employees so their net wages stayed the same after they earned overtime during long shifts.
