A 23-year-old pedestrian was killed early Sunday when a car struck him on a dark road, authorities said.
The man, identified as Ruben Varillas of Palmdale, was walking on 20th Street West, just north of Avenue O, at 4:50 a.m. when he was struck by a 70-year-old woman driving a Mercedes, said California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos.
