Economic water marks

Cartoonists Pismestrovic of Austria, Sakurai of Germany and Moir of Australia wade into the economic crisis.

March 22, 2009|Joel Pett | Joel Pett is the Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist of the Lexington Herald-Leader. His work also appears in USA Today.

The U.S. economy is in the tank, we're swimming in debt, nobody will float a loan, mortgages are underwater and everyone wants to waterboard AIG execs. But the fiscal storm is also global, and cartoonists everywhere are immersed in it. Austria's Pismestrovic used dry humor to crack me up. Germany's Sakurai seized a high-seas metaphor to make a point about our Third World neighbors' dampened spirits. And Australia's Moir sized up the impact of it all on a former miracle man. Now excuse me while I check my drained 401(k).
