Galaxy today

March 22, 2009|Grahame L. Jones

When: Noon.

Where: Home Depot Center, Carson.

On the air: TV: Prime Ticket, TeleFutura. Radio: 570, 1330.

Records: Season opener for both teams.

Record vs D.C. United (2008): 1-1.

Update: Strangely, both starting goalkeepers might miss the season opener because of injuries. In the absence of the Galaxy's Donovan Ricketts and D.C. United's Louis Crayton, Josh Saunders and Josh Wicks would be in the nets for their respective teams, both players having being Galaxy understudies last season. D.C. United thrashed Los Angeles, 4-1, in Washington last year, then was trounced, 5-2, in Carson as Landon Donovan scored a hat trick en route to being the league's leading goal scorer. Today's match should see the MLS debut of rookie defenders Omar Gonzalez and A.J. DeLaGarza for the Galaxy, as well as the Galaxy debut of midfielder Dema Kovalenko.
