March 25, 2009|Eric Sondheimer

Dana Point Dana Hills (4-2, 1-0) at No. 2 Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley (6-2, 1-0). Today at 3:15 p.m.

Why it matters: The No. 1 professional baseball prospect in the Southland, left-hander Tyler Matzek (3-0), is scheduled to pitch for Capistrano Valley in a South Coast League showdown. Matzek threw a no-hitter last week against Aliso Niguel in his last outing. Matzek is also leading Capistrano Valley in hitting. Eric Ehlow will get the start for Dana Hills, with UCLA-bound Peter Tago available for relief duty.

Encino Crespi 2, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 1

Top contributors: Josh Mason, Crespi, picked up his second save and had a sacrifice fly. Kelly Dugan, Notre Dame, had a run-scoring double and a single.

The scoop: Michael Hubbard scored the winning run after a throwing error in the fifth inning to end a 1-1 tie.

Why it matters: Both schools rank among the top contenders in Southern Section Division II. They play another Mission League game Friday at Notre Dame.

Records: Crespi (8-2, 3-0); Notre Dame (7-2, 0-1).
