Thank you for the thought-provoking and optimism-making article ["A Get Together, Outside the Box," April 19]. Great things seem to be brewing at the Hammer, reflecting a sense of community and immediacy among contemporary artists.
I do want to speak in defense of "wall text" (without didacticism) in that for those who are familiar with contemporary art it may be an easy thing to view a single work in a show and get a feel for what one can experience. But if one is not on familiar terms with the artists' work, the challenge can sometimes be great.
