Stations to do digital 'soft test'

May 21, 2009|TIMES WIRE REPORTS

TV stations around the country are replacing their analog broadcasts for a few minutes today with reminders that those broadcasts will disappear completely in three weeks.

The stations have to turn off their analog broadcasts June 12 as part of a nationwide mandate to move to more-efficient digital signals. For today's "soft test," analog broadcasts are being interrupted for two to five minutes in the morning, at midday and in the early evening.
