Behind Sesame Street

November 13, 2009

Re "Hey, Bert, happy 40th," Editorial, Nov. 10

It is wonderful to read about Sesame Street's 40th anniversary and all the actors and characters who entertained us, young and old, through the years.

But neither your editorial nor your article in Calendar mentioned the two extraordinary people who made Sesame Street so magical and successful: Jim Henson, puppeteer and creator of the Muppets; and Joan Ganz Cooney, co-founder of the Children's Television Workshop.

Kermit, Bert and Ernie, Oscar, Big Bird, Elmo and the rest of the zany gang made learning delightful and friendship a gift.
