30-day budget ends shutdown

A budget stalemate caused a partial state government shutdown, but within two hours lawmakers adopted a temporary 30-day budget.

The move early this morning avoided worker layoffs and office closures. It also delayed tough decisions on more permanent spending cuts in one of the nation's most economically battered states.
