More bang for your bottle?

October 03, 2009

Re "Raids of recycling fund may force higher bottle deposits," Sept. 28

Any increase in container deposits needs to be accompanied by improvements in the recycling infrastructure.

Recyclers act like my time is worth nothing. The centers are understaffed, resulting in regular delays. Or they're full to capacity.

Instead of placing all of the responsibility on the consumer and society as a whole, the people who sell their products in these containers should bear more of the costs.

I am relieved to see that the governor's trickle-down economics is working. As quoted in The Times' story, the homeless man who collects recyclables expressed his approval of the higher bottle deposit: "More money, better for us."
