A newspaper that says something

October 28, 2009

Re "News for and by oppressed women," Oct. 25

Thanks to Times staff writer Mark Magnier for bringing this story to our attention. Not enough papers still publish this kind of journalism, and I know I speak for other readers when I tell you how much it's appreciated.

We found ourselves cheering for the success of the women described in your article -- about the first newspaper written, read and run by tribal women and those from the Dalit, or so-called untouchable caste -- and the many others in India in comparable situations.

We want to help them succeed. Is there any way to contribute to the Khabar Lahariya newspaper?
