MY FAVORITE WEEKEND / Ozzy Osbourne

If you didn't see enough of them on 'The Osbournes' ...

... You can at least live like them in Malibu and Calabasas.

September 04, 2009|Mark Sachs

Ozzy Osbourne and the Sunset Strip will be reunited in a big way next weekend as the Sunset Strip Music Festival kicks off Thursday night with a special tribute event to the metal legend at the House of Blues. Ozzy will cap the three-day fest on Saturday night with a performance on one of the two outdoor stages on the Strip, which will be blocked off -- a rare event not seen in recent memory -- between Doheny and San Vicente.

It's been nearly 40 years since Ozzy has performed a full set on the Strip. He and Black Sabbath did a five-night gig at the Whisky back in 1970. For more information on the festival, check out sunsetstripmusicfestival.com.

Now, where does Ozzy go for good bat's-head soup. . . .

The art of shopping

On the weekend, Sharon and I try to do as little as possible and just spend time with each other. I go on the road for a year and a half at a time, and when I come off, I want to be home. So we'll watch TV in the morning as Sharon has a little cereal. I am a workout-aholic, so later I'll work out right at home in my gym.

Do we like to go shopping? Are you stoned? I hate it, big-time, but tell me a woman who doesn't like to go shopping! Sharon's got it down to a fine art. Her favorite place to shop is the nearest store. She'll shop in a coal yard. She'll be in front of 50 white shirts and she has to go through every . . . one of them.

Malibu for dinner

Malibu has always been one of our favorite places, and we always used to take the kids there when they were babies. These days, I like going to a restaurant there called Nobu. You should check it out, because the food is really very good. Another great place we like is Madeo's. I like everything on the menu, the food's wonderful and the atmosphere is very nice. I'll usually order the thin-crust Margherita pizza. But the trouble with going into town now is that the paparazzi is spoiling it.

Movies, no subtitles

On a Friday or Saturday night, I like going out to the movies, the one in Calabasas. We only live up the road so it's real easy. I don't like these slurpy, girlie films. It's got to have some kind of action in it.

I just saw Quentin Tarantino's latest film, "Inglourious Basterds," with Brad Pitt. Have you seen it? I like it, but I don't think it was as good as "Pulp Fiction." That was amazing. But this latest one was hard to follow for a dyslexic guy like me with all the subtitles. I was missing all the action!

Concerts are work!

The last big concert I went to was Paul McCartney at Staples Center, but I really don't like to see concerts. Either I'm . . . because I'm not up on the stage, or I end up feeling like I'm back at work, back at the factory somehow.
