A 30-year-old woman was fatally shot on the UC Irvine campus Sunday night.

Irvine police Lt. John Hare said a 35-year-old male graduate student was arrested at the scene on suspicion of homicide.

Shortly after 7 p.m., UC Irvine and Irvine police received 911 calls that shots had been fired in the 4200 block of Verano Place.

Officers arrived to find the woman on the ground with at least one gunshot wound.

She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Hare said it is believed she had a relationship with the suspect, but police had not determined the nature of it.

The shooting occurred outside the suspect's residence in graduate student housing.

Police did not identify the victim or the suspect.
