at New York 9, Boston 5: Jon Lester left the game after being hit by a line drive near his right knee, Joba Chamberlain got his first win in six weeks and the Yankees beat the Red Sox for the seventh time in the last eight meetings to lower their magic number for clinching the AL East to three. Lester (14-8) was struck by Melky Cabrera's liner in the third inning and stayed down for about two minutes. Alex Rodriguez had a homer and four RBIs, and tied a career high with three stolen bases.

Minnesota 9, at Kansas City 4: Michael Cuddyer hit his 30th homer and the Twins moved to within two games of first-place Detroit in the AL Central.

at Cleveland 4, Baltimore 2: The Indians ended an 11-game losing streak to avoid tying a club record set in 1931. The Orioles have lost eight straight.

at Toronto 5, Seattle 0: Roy Halladay pitched a seven-hitter in what could be his final home start for the Blue Jays.

at Texas 8, Tampa Bay 3: The Rangers' Ian Kinsler homered to become the third second baseman in major leauge history with 30 homers and 30 steals in a season. Alfonso Soriano and Brandon Phillips are the others.
