1:13 p.m — Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department were investigating the deaths of two men who were struck and killed by a freight train in Rosemead early Saturday.
The Sheriff's Department's Temple Station received a report of a person struck by a train around 12:32 a.m. in the 8800 block of Grand Avenue, not far from Rosemead Boulevard, said Lt. Kerry Carter. The bodies of the men were found near the Union Pacific railroad tracks. The men were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. [Updated at 1:13 p.m.: The men were identified by coroner officials as Aaron Gallardo and Richard Haro, both whom are 19 and live in Rosemead.] Investigators said they were trying to determine if the men were alive or dead when they were struck by the train.
