POP MUSIC

Shadow Shadow Shade Forged in the breakup of local staple Irving, this sprawling ensemble marries Kinks-ish wry pop with operatic arrangements and a studio wonk's ear for incredible sounds. The band's debut record is finally out after years of speculation and bustle. With the local guitar-pop wizard Evan Voytas and a secret headliner that should … cough … leave one's gold looking a little foolish. The Echo, 1822 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles. 8 p.m. Free. (213) 413-8200.

Blind Boys of Alabama The vocal group brings its bluesy, gospel-infused and often rowdy spirit to a program of holiday standards at this concert. Carols, hymns and seasonal pop standards never sounded so soulful. Walt Disney Concert Hall, 111 S. Grand Ave., L.A. 8 p.m. $36-$95.75. http://www.laphil.org.
