Coroner's officials on Sunday released the identities of the man and the 6-year-old boy who were shot and killed Saturday at a Del Taco fast-food restaurant in San Bernardino.

Alex Trujillo, 33, of San Bernardino was pronounced dead at 1:35 p.m. at the scene of the shooting, according to the San Bernardino County coroner's office. His son, Adrian, died about 30 minutes later at a nearby hospital.

The two died when Jimmy Schlager, 56, walked into the restaurant with two handguns and opened fire on them, as well as on Trujillo's wife and the couple's other child, a 5-year-old boy. After shooting the family members, who were sitting at a table, Schlager then fatally shot himself. Alex Trujillo's wife was Schlager's stepdaughter, authorities said.

Schlager was taken to a hospital and died around 4 p.m. Schlager's stepdaughter, who is 29, and her younger son, whose identities have not been released, were critically injured and taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center.

Authorities said Schlager's criminal record, from 1972 to 1999, included theft, driving under the influence and assault with a deadly weapon. San Bernardino police did not release any further details about the investigation Sunday.

A woman who answered the phone at the Del Taco restaurant, in the 2000 block of East Highland Avenue, said it had not yet reopened and that staff were "still taking care of things." They expected to reopen later in the day.

She declined to discuss the incident and referred questions to the chain's corporate headquarters.
