One team, Chivas, is already out of MLS playoff contention, and its opponent at Home Depot Center, Toronto FC, is on the verge of elimination.

October 08, 2010

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Home Depot Center.

On the air: TV: FSC and FSE. Radio: 690.

Records: Chivas USA 7-15-4; Toronto 8-12-7.

Record versus Toronto: 0-1.

Update: Already eliminated from MLS playoff contention, Chivas USA can put Toronto FC in the same boat with a victory or a tie. To reach the playoffs, Toronto, which in midseason fired former Chivas USA coach Preki, has to win its remaining three games and hope that the San Jose Earthquakes fail to earn a point in their remaining four. Chivas USA, meanwhile, has only four games left in which to do something dramatic or it will finish the season with the second-fewest goals and the second-fewest points, ahead of only hapless DC United. If San Jose ties or defeats DC United in Washington earlier Saturday, Toronto is history. Chivas will be without defender Dario Delgado and midfielder Osael Romero, who are with their respective Costa Rican and El Salvadoran national teams. Toronto defeated Chivas, 2-1, in Canada in August.
