There are few things as cute as wiggly little kids decked out in high fashion. And Stella McCartney certainly upped the juvenile style bar through her recent Gap collaboration for babies and kids — a collection that served up Beatles-esque marching band jackets and sweater dresses emblazoned with wolf heads for the playground set.
Now the British designer is launching her second chic children's collection, but this time for her own brand.
Stella McCartney Kids, which debuts Wednesday in the brand's boutiques and on http://www.stellamccartneykids.com, is the mother of all "mini-me" collections. It serves up an array of looks for girls and boys ages 0 to 12 that, if magically enlarged, could easily be staples in a fashion-forward adult's wardrobe.
Designs were named after kids' first names; there's an Ingrid floral print dress and an Aldo quilted field jacket, for example.
For girls, there are adorable tops (a nautical-striped tee with a floral graphic, a Holly Hobby-style floral smock top), colored skinny jeans and a classic Fair Isle sweater adapted from McCartney's women's ready-to-wear collection.
Boys' and unisex styles include a simple pea coat, a graphic gray sweatshirt, skinny gray and turquoise jeans and a chunky gray cable-knit sweater. Baby clothes, including printed pajamas and onesies, are largely unstructured and made from soft organic cotton.
Prices, which range from around $26 for a baby's T-shirt to just over $200 for a coat, aren't H&M-low. But McCartney aimed to design them to be worthy of passing down "for generations."
"I wanted to introduce a collection that was modern in every way," McCartney said. "I wanted to create the right design for the right age group, have some unisex styles, be available online immediately and have an accessible price point. When you're buying children's clothing, it needs to be realistic but still be timeless and [be] the best quality possible."
The capsule collection will bloom into a full collection for spring (out in February) and will be available four seasons a year.

Beverly Hills Fashion Festival Saturday: Hosted by hairdresser and "Shear Genius" judge Jonathon Antin, this Fashion's Night Out-style shopping event includes runway shows (Elie Tahari, H. Lorenzo and William Rast are confirmed), pop-up boutiques, beauty and fashion product sampling and interactive promotions. Tickets range from $25 to $250 per seat per show.

Westfield Style Tour Saturday and Sunday: Westfield Topanga shopping center hosts a weekend fashion and beauty event put on by IMG, which produces New York's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The lineup includes a fashion consultation with a professional wardrobe stylist, a makeup consultation and beauty product samples and an appearance by Stacy London, of TLC's "What Not to Wear," who will host a fashion show and offer her signature straight-up fashion tips starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Petit Trésor at Target: High-end L.A. baby boutique Petit Trésor has debuted its simple-but-chic Target collection for babies. Look for snap-up body suits, layette items and snuggle blankets in super-soft pastel-colored fabrics. Ten percent of the purchase price goes to nonprofit organization Baby Buggy, which helps babies and families in need. The collection, which ranges in price from $6.99 for snuggle bears to $16.99 for a three-pack of bodysuits, will be available through Dec. 26.
Anna Sui at Anthropologie: To coincide with the 30th anniversary of quintessential New York label Anna Sui, the designer has resurrected three of her most notable dresses to sell at Anthropologie stores and on Anthropologie.com. The playful, limited-edition frocks — priced around $300 each — are from Sui's fall 2005, spring 2001 and spring 2007 collections, respectively.
