Chef David Myers buys restaurant space at Hollywood and Vine

The high-profile chef's eatery on the ground floor of the historic Equitable building is expected to open next year.

High-profile Los Angeles chef David Myers has purchased space at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street where he intends to open a new restaurant.

David Myers Group paid $7.21 million for two retail condominium spaces on the ground floor of the historic Equitable building at 6253 Hollywood Blvd., real estate broker Ramsey-Shilling Commercial Real Estate Services said Wednesday.

One of the spaces is already occupied by Dillon's Irish Pub & Grill, which will continue to operate as a tenant of Myers. The new restaurant is expected to open next year.

Retail condominiums, which are purchased rather than leased, are unusual in Los Angeles, broker Nicole Mihalka said. Mihalka, of Cushman & Wakefield, represented the seller, a local partnership called Vinewood. The Equitable building, constructed in the late 1920s, also has office condominiums on the second floor and live-work lofts upstairs.

The twin-towered office building was converted to mostly residential use a few years ago as a building boom swept Hollywood. All but one of the 60 live-work lofts have been sold or are in escrow, Mihalka said.

Myers' space, about 4,800 square feet, was formerly occupied by the Hollywood & Vine Lounge and has a liquor license, she said.

The chef gained attention in 2002 when his first restaurant, Sona, earned a prestigious Michelin star. The restaurant on La Cienega Boulevard closed this year. David Myers Group continues to operate French brasserie Comme Ca on Melrose Avenue and Pizzeria Ortica in Orange County.

Myers plans to open a high-end patisserie and a cafe in the Ginza district of Tokyo this fall and open a Comme Ca in Las Vegas this year, his broker said.
