L.A. Comedy Shorts Festival The largest comedy film festival in the country returns for another year of screenings and panel discussions featuring emerging and established talent. Friday's programming features panels on pitching and Internet distribution, three blocks of short films and a party at the nearby ESPN Zone (1011 S. Figueroa St.). MUSIC

Aspects of Adès The U.K.-raised, L.A.-based pianist and composer Thomas Adès has proved to be one of the most invigorating voices in modern composition and conducting. The L.A. Philharmonic's program "Aspects of Adès" will explore the composer's body of work and collaborate with him in a series of pieces, including the West Coast premiere of his new work "Polaris." Los Angeles Spring Fair The first Los Angeles Spring Fair kicks off eight days of family-friendly fun, offering live music, carnival rides and games, a singing competition, NASCAR racing and no fewer than 50 foods served on sticks.
