Pure Aloha Festival & Concerts

When, where: April 14-17, Silverton Casino Lodge

Highlights: More than 100 Hawaii-themed craft booths and food vendors converge for this annual celebration of all things tropical. There'll be hula performances, live music, amusement rides and a concert series.

Cost: Festival: $7; $5 for ages 55 and older, 10 and younger and those with military ID; concert series starts at $20 in advance; $28 at the door

TEMPLETON, CALIF.

Earth Day Food & Wine Festival

When, where: April 15-17, Pomar Junction Vineyard & Winery and other venues

Highlights: Enjoy Paso Robles-area wines, farm-to-table cuisine, live music, tours of sustainable farms, garden visits and a farmers market.

Cost: Activities range from free to $100; proceeds benefit farm-outreach programs.

HOOD RIVER, ORE.

Hood River Blossom Festival

When, where: April 16 and 17, Hood River Fruit Loop

Highlights: This annual event, when fruit trees are in full bloom, includes a self-guided driving tour of the blossoms. Farms and other attractions en route feature a craft show, a barbecue, a dessert party, beer and wine tastings, the Columbia Gorge Fiber Festival (knitting!) and the Parkdale Fire Department's annual casino night.

Cost: Many events are free; area hotels offer special rates.

SAN FRANCISCO

International Chocolate Salon

When, where: April 17, Fort Mason Center Festival Pavilion

Highlights: Almost any type of chocolate is available for sampling as some 40 master chocolatiers present their creations. Attendees can taste other types of confections as well as wines during this annual event, which also features chef demos and cookbook signings.

Cost: $25 advance; $30 at the door; $10 for ages 6 to 12; free for 5 and younger

WEOTT, CALIF.

Avenue of the Giants Marathon

When, where: May 1, Humboldt Redwoods State Park

Highlights: Known as one of the prettiest races in the West, this run amid ancient redwoods can be a full or half marathon or a 10K. Other events include a slide show and lecture, an all-you-can-eat pasta dinner ($10) and a small expo featuring running-related vendors.

Cost: $80 to run the marathon; $70 for the half; $50 for the 10K; free for spectators
