Happening Tuesday: Naked and the Famous, Styx and more

'Yes, Giorgio,' Yes and Styx at the Greek, female comedians.

August 02, 2011

Yes, Giorgio In this 1982 film, famous Italian opera singer Luciano Pavarotti plays, well, a famous Italian opera singer. There's a cursory love story with a throat doctor played by Kathryn Harrold, but really the film is a showcase for Pavarotti's magnificent pipes. Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd., L.A. 1:30 p.m. Free. (310) 440-4500.

Yes/Styx The Grammy-winning English prog rock band and the multi-platinum arena rock stalwarts join forces for a 22-city summer tour that lands the double bill at the scenic Greek Theatre. Both acts have new studio albums on the market, proving that they're channeling their energies toward more than just the nostalgia market. Special guest Shane Alexander opens. The Greek Theatre, 2700 N. Vermont Ave., Los Feliz. 7 p.m. $35-$100. (323) 665-5857.

The Naked and Famous The New Zealand band with the warily Google-able name crossed over into the U.S. with its frothy single "Young Blood." Its debut album, "Passive Me, Aggressive You" won fans with its danceable rave-up energy. The Music Box, 6126 Hollywood Blvd., L.A. 8 p.m. $20.

Sister Groundling The L.A. improv troupe launched the careers of Phil Hartman and Jon Lovitz, but this show showcases its young female talent. Michaela Watkins, Charlotte Newhouse and Ariane Price are among the regulars featured. $9.Groundlings, 7307 Melrose Ave., L.A. 8 p.m.
