San Diego State defeats Utah, 71-62

Pacific wins on three-pointer with three-tenths of a second remaining.

No. 6 San Diego State 71, at Utah 62: Malcolm Thomas had 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Aztecs, who improved to 17-0 (2-0 Mountain West Conference). Utah (7-9, 0-2), which led, 34-33, at halftime, has lost six games in a row. After Utah cut the deficit to 57-56 on a layup by J.J. O'Brien with 8 minutes 45 seconds left, D.J. Gay fueled a 10-0 run with two three-point baskets to extend San Diego State's lead to 67-56.

at Long Beach State 86, UC Irvine 78: Larry Anderson scored 22 points and Casper Ware had 21 to lead the 49ers (9-8, 4-0 Big West Conference). They keyed a 14-2 run during a 4:17 second-half stretch in which the 49ers turned a five-point deficit into a 69-62 advantage. Darren Moore scored 23 points and Patrick Rembert had 18 for the Anteaters (7-9, 1-2).

at Pacific 57, UC Santa Barbara 54: Pat Eveland made a three-point basket with three-tenths of a second remaining to lift the Tigers (9-7, 2-2 Big West). Orlando Johnson, who finished with 27 points, scored 15 consecutive Santa Barbara (8-6, 1-2) points over a seven-minute span in the second half.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 48, at UC Davis 43: The Mustangs (6-8, 2-1 Big West) won for the second game in a row while scoring less than 50 points. UC Davis dropped to 6-10, 1-3.

at Loyola Marymount 67, San Diego 58: Vernon Teel had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Lions (8-8, 1-1 West Coast Conference), who trailed, 29-28, at halftime but shot 38.5% from the field in the second half while the Toreros (3-13, 0-2) shot only 32%.

St. Mary's 85, at Pepperdine 60: Taylor Darby had 16 points for the Waves (7-12, 1-1 West Coast) but the Gaels (14-2, 2-0) prevailed for their eighth win in a row.

at Seattle 65, Cal State Northridge 58: Alex Jones scored a career-high 29 points to help the Redhawks (7-11) win two in a row for the first time this season. Lenny Daniel scored 27 points for the Matadors (4-11), who are 0-7 on the road.
