Beauty: The new looks for 2011

How women in Beirut, London, Tokyo, Sydney and Mexico City are redefining fashion trends.

January 16, 2011|By Alexandra Drosu | Special to the Los Angeles Times

"Australians are constantly sporty — tennis, yoga, dance, kickboxing, kayaking and diving," celebrity makeup artist Sue Devitt says. This active lifestyle will define beauty trends in 2011. "As Australians shift into body-conscious shapes and high-tech, high-performance fabrics, skin care will follow this trend using high-tech delivery systems such as micronized liquid crystals," she adds. Micronized liquid crystals contain fatty acids that deliver ingredients through multiple layers of skin, making products more effective. The ingredients of choice in Australia include the indigenous, such as biodynamically grown wild blackberries, which act as powerful antioxidants and support a healthy, sporty lifestyle.

Get it in L.A.: Look for products that incorporate a liquid crystal delivery system but also check the ingredient list carefully — you want to make sure that the ingredients absorbed into the skin will benefit it. Some to look for are resveratrol (found in the skin of red grapes) and antioxidants, such as vitamins A, C and E. This month, Sue Devitt Beauty is introducing a Microaquatic Marine Crystal Collagen Masque ($125; http://www.suedevittbeauty.com) that delivers the anti-aging benefits of seaweed and resveratrol to skin.
