OC Fair This year's fair kicks off 23 days' worth of family entertainment with the theme "Let's Eat!" Entertainment includes rides, exhibits, animals, music and action sports as well as the popular Pacific Amphitheatre Summer Concert Series, the Action Sports Arena, a heat-combating Ice Museum and, of course, plenty of festive food. At the Roman Table: A Culinary Adventure Enjoy a dinner inspired by ancient Roman recipes and learn about culinary pleasures in the time of Caesar. Food historian Andrew Dalby speaks about the nature of power dining in ancient Rome, identifying great wines, local produce and luxuries that made up a fashionable dinner 2,000 years ago. Coop The L.A.-based pop artist shows off his devilish playthings in the exhibition "Idle Hands," a collection of bold, pulp-inspired drawings and paintings of curvaceous androids and slinky superheroes. A book of the same name is forthcoming from Baby Tattoo Press. The exhibition closes Aug. 3. Corey Helford Gallery, 8522 Washington Blvd., Culver City. Music in the Zoo L.A.'s appetite for music in unconventional locales apparently knows no bounds as Silver Lake booking institution the Fold brings eight locals together for Music in the Zoo. Post-punks Abe Vigoda, danceable new wavers Pollyn and Hands and the teenage rockers Kitten top a nice bill of up-and-comers, but it remains to be seen whether the animals will be impressed. Sarah McLachlan The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter makes her Hollywood Bowl debut. The Canadian songbird joins the Bowl's orchestra to play material off her new album, "Laws of Illusion," along with her older material. Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N.
