It can get mighty hot in central Arizona in summer -- and that in turn forces hotels to turn up the heat in the promotions department.

Case in point: the JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort & Spa in Scottsdale. A Southwestern classic, the 125-acre desert resort is offering a Linger Longer package to entice heat-seekers who want to make the most of their weekends. The package nets you a stay in a 550-square-foot, nonsmoking "casita" on the resort's sprawling grounds at the foot of Mummy Mountain.

The deal: This summer offer includes check-in Friday afternoon and a late, 6 p.m. checkout on Sunday. (Normally, checkout is 11 a.m.) That's the "linger longer" portion, which gives you extra time to sample the spa or get in another round of golf. But the real attraction is the $50 credit each day ($150 total). The credit can be used for dining, golf or spa services.

When: The deal is good through Sept. 30, subject to availability.

Tested: Using the promotional code "ES7," I checked availability on the hotel's website for a check-in on Friday,  June 17, checking out late Sunday at 6 p.m. I found a room with one king or two double beds for two adults for $184 per night plus tax and a resort fee of $25 per night. I also tried July 22-24, and got the same rate.

By comparison, the regular room rate for those dates was $159 a night, so you still save $25 a night with the deal if you make use of the credits.

Contact: JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort & Spa, 5402 E. Lincoln Drive, Scottsdale, Ariz.; room reservations, (800) 721-6996.
