Bloomberg hires Andrew Morse as head of U.S. television

The ABC News veteran will oversee Bloomberg's cable TV channel, which is trying to establish itself as a rival to Comcast's CNBC and News Corp.'s Fox Business.

Financial news behemoth Bloomberg has tapped ABC News veteran Andrew Morse to run its U.S. television operations.

Most recently an executive producer of innovation and integration at ABC News, Morse will oversee Bloomberg's cable channel of the same name, which is trying to establish itself as a rival to Comcast Corp.'s CNBC and News Corp.'s Fox Business.

He succeeds David Rhodes, who left Bloomberg in February to become president of CBS News. He will report to Andy Lack, the former NBC president who is now chief executive of the Bloomberg Media Group.

Morse had been with ABC News for 14 years. Among the positions he held there were executive producer of the weekend edition of "Good Morning America," Asia bureau chief and senior producer of the weekend editions of ABC's "World News."

Bloomberg, which is in about 70 million homes in the U.S., has been squabbling with Comcast Corp. over where its channel is placed on the lineup compared with CNBC.

It has filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission alleging that Comcast is giving CNBC preferential treatment in violation of the FCC's conditions for approving Comcast's acquisition of NBCUniversal, which includes CNBC.

Comcast has denied that it is violating the FCC's order.
