BOOKS

Lundi Gras The local literary journal Slake: Los Angeles will laisser les bons temps rouler with this Fat Monday celebration featuring art, music, readings, films and food. The program includes short films by Helen Hill and Robert Sobul, readings from Hank Cherry and other Slake contributors, work by local artists, traditional New Orleans jazz and funeral music, and grub from the Crazy Creole Cafe truck. Bootleg Theater, 2220 Beverly Blvd., L.A. 7 p.m. $10. http://www.slake.la.

COMEDY

Thomas Lennon & Ben Garant: Never Before Seen!! Best known for their roles as bungling sheriff's deputies on Comedy Central's "Reno 911!," the two also have cowritten feature comedies such as "Balls of Fury" and "Let's Go to Prison" and are also regulars on the UCB Theatre's improvisational stage. They present an evening of rare, lost and never-before-seen footage from their 20-year career in television. The Cinefamily, 611 N. Fairfax Ave., Fairfax District. 8 p.m. $12. (323) 655-2510. http://www.cinefamily.org.

POP MUSIC

Drive-By Truckers "The Big To-Do" is the group's first album for Dave Matthews' ATO Records, but it hardly represents a fresh start for the Truckers: Like the dozen or so releases that preceded it, "The Big To-Do" examines the rough-and-tumble lives of the unfortunate and the unwise over rowdy Southern-rock grooves teeming with fuzzy, Crazy Horse-style guitars. The Troubadour, 9081 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood. 8 p.m. $25.

Living Things The guitar-thrashing power trio siblings look like the offspring of Joey Ramone and a doe-eyed Anne Hathaway, but don't let the good cheekbones fool you. They peel off Stooges-indebted proto punk with a healthy smattering of far-left ideology, which should sound tedious but actually gives weight to the clamor. They hold down a residency at the Satellite all month. The Satellite, 1717 Silver Lake Blvd., L.A. 8 p.m. Free. http://www.thesatellitela.com.
