Los Angeles Times Daily Travel & Deal blogger If you've ever yearned to take an Amazon River tour, your riverboat may have just come in. International Expeditions takes $1,000 off the price of a 10-day river expedition in Peru that offers a close-up look at wildlife, the rain forest and village life along the renowned South American river.
The deal: International Expeditions' discount applies to a single June sailing that explores the river, the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve and wildlife such as birds and river dolphins. Participants will also visit villages to distribute school supplies to children.
Prices start at $2,498 per person (with the discount) aboard La Amatista, a riverboat that holds 28 passengers. The rate covers a lower deck cabin and is based on double occupancy. The price also includes excursions, laundry, most meals, gudes and transfers. Airfare is extra.
When: The offer is good for a June 3 departure only.
Tested: I called International Expeditions and learned that there are still cabins available on the June 3 river trip. You'll need to add on the costs of airfare to Lima and an additional $350 per person for a round-trip flight within Peru.
