November 07, 2011

Adam Mansbach The author of the year's most irreverent children's book for adults soothes exasperated parents beset by the age-old problem of a sleepless toddler with a reading and signing of his cult bestseller. Written in the style of a classic bedtime story and illustrated by New York Times contributor Ricardo Cort├ęs, the book is a mixture of sweetness and sarcasm. Barnes & Noble The Grove, 189 Grove Drive, Suite K30, Los Angeles. 7 p.m. Free. Signed book $14.95.

I Melt With You As part of AFI Fest, director Mark Pellington and cast members (to be announced) will join this screening of the new film about friends from college who meet for an annual trip that soon spirals out of control. Egyptian Theatre, 6712 Hollywood Blvd., L.A. 7 p.m. Free, reservations required. (323) 466-3456.

Lykke Li Li is a fan of classic handmade pop and the ways laptops can serrate it and a writer obsessed with sex and sexing up obsession. On the strength of her excellently minimalist early single "Little Bit," Li was often wrongly tagged as an electronic artist. "Wounded Rhymes" is made of shards of machines, yet it's structured like R&B and pre-Beatles pop. Fox Theater Pomona, 301 S. Garey Ave., Pomona. 8:30 p.m. $30.

Boots Electric Eagles of Death Metal frontman Jesse Hughes performs as his solo alter ego, whose tastes for sleaze-disco run deep. In addition to playing cuts off of his debut album, "Honkey Kong," Hughes performs covers of Olivia Newton-John and Amy Winehouse. In his hands, Newton-John's "Physical" gets a more lascivious workout. With Light FM and Kat Crash. The Roxy, 9009 W. Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood. 8 p.m. (310)278-9457. $12.
