Times Washington Bureau Chief David Lauter and campaign reporter Mike Memoli will be online Friday for a discussion of the ins and outs of presidential polls.

Nine new polls have been released in just the last week. With the race between President Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney expected to remain close until the November general election, voters will be inundated with survey results over the next several months.

Knowing what to make of polls can be a challenge – how they work, what to look for, why they often seem to be contradictory, what information campaigns consider the most important. How accurate have polls been in past presidential races?

If you're interested in politics and presidential polling, join us for a lively discussion at 12:30 p.m. EDT/9:30 a.m. PDT on www.latimes.com.

David Meeks, a Times assistant political editor for online, will moderate.
