The Old Globe's new season will feature two world-premiere musical productions -- "Allegiance" and "A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder" -- as well as the local premiere of Tarell Alvin McCraney's "The Brothers Size."
The San Diego company will also mount the west coast premiere of Bekah Brunstetter's "Be a Good Little Widow" as well as productions of "Good People" by David Lindsay-Abaire and "Other Desert Cities" by Jon Robin Baitz.
"Allegiance" (Sept. 7 – Oct. 21), by Jay Kuo and Lorenzo Thione, tells the story of a family caught up in the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II. The new musical will star Tony-winner Lea Salonga, "Star Trek" veteran George Takei and Telly Leung. It will be directed Stafford Arima.
"A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" (March 8 – April 14) is a musical comedy about a man who attempts to eliminate his rivals who stand in his way to inherit a dukedom. The musical is by Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak, based on the 1907 novel "Israel Rank" by Roy Horniman.
Darko Tresnjak, the Globe's former artistic co-director, will direct the world-premiere staging, which will be a co-production with Hartford Stage.
McCraney's "The Brothers Size" (Jan. 26 – Feb. 24) is about two siblings who reunite in Louisiana. The production will be directed by Tea Alagic, who directed the play when it premiered in New York.
The season will feature revivals of Shaw's "Pygmalion" (Jan. 12 – Feb. 17), directed by Nicholas Martin, and Ibsen's "A Doll's House" (March 23 – April 21), adapted by Anne-Charlotte Hanes Harvey and Kirsten Brandt.
"Be a Good Little Widow" (May 11 – June 9, 2013) tells the story of a recently widowed young woman who resumes her life with the help of her off-beat mother-in-law.
Rounding out the season will be "Good People" (Sept. 29 – Oct. 28), "Other Desert Cities" (April 27 – June 2, 2013) and the Globe's annual holiday production of "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (Nov. 17 – Dec. 29).
